Join guest instructor Angela Eastman of Flag Mountain Studio for a four-hour introduction to basket weaving. In this hands-on workshop, you'll weave a small basket using pre-harvested wild vines such as bittersweet, honeysuckle, wisteria, and kudzu. Along the way, you'll learn how to responsibly harvest and prepare these invasive plants, transforming species that threaten native forests into beautiful, functional weaving material. Using traditional basketry techniques, including a split-spoke base, twining, and a rolled border, you'll leave with a finished basket and the knowledge to continue weaving with materials you can forage in your own landscape.

Angela Eastman is the artist behind Flag Mountain Studio, where weaving serves as the foundation of her creative practice. Working with foraged materials, cultivated basket willow, metal, fibers, and found objects, she creates baskets, sculptures, and installations that explore the intersections of industrial and natural material cultures. Rooted in the Piedmont of North Carolina, her work reflects a deep connection to place and a belief that sharing the processes of craft fosters meaningful connections to histories of labor, landscape, and community.
